She doesn’t look like she’s 50

Michelle w 50th bday scarf 1

This was a fun project! We were asked to create a scarf from a whole lot of “50th Birthday” sayings as a gift. The person the scarf was a gift for is a “word person.” She really likes words. Some were very philosophical, some were insiteful, and some were just plain fun. We used all kinds of fonts, and did the design in black and white which coincidently were the colors the birthday girl was wearing when the gift was presented.  My favorite was “50 is only 14 in Scrabble.”

This project has really gotten our minds going. We are working on all the major milestone birthdays as well as other special events. Words are such powerful things and when you can put them all together and present them in such a creative way it really makes for a special gift.

If you have an idea for a “WORD SCARF” please email us at spiritstore@sbcglobal.net. We will be putting this design as well as others we have created in our scarf store, Daniella Designs, which you can browse by going to our web site spiritoflivingston.com.  Follow the links to the custom stores.

Are You a Military Brat?

Every so often a special person comes in to your life. We have found that special person in Bob Holliker of BratPin.com.  Bob came to us a while back and wanted us to work with him to produce unique items for the “Military Brat” community. Not being from a military family he educated us on the life of these special Americans.

Bob’s first product, BratPins, are simple, elegant and whisper a sense of pride that proclaims, “I served too . . . and I thrived!” It is meant to be an icon for Military Brats that expresses both the magnificence and pain of their transient lives. Through this special pin Military Brats will soon come to know each other.

Bob has added many items to his inventory. The latest is this beautiful sheer knit scarf with the same custom dandelion design as the BratPin. For the female “Brat” this is a very classy way to show that you too are one of the many who spent their entire youth in service to this country.

The following information explains why the dandelion is the official flower of the Military Child.  Next time you see one that has landed your way, think of the children of our brave military men and women who have lived their lives going where the breezes take them.

You can read more about BratPins, Bob and connect with other “Brats” at BratPin.com.

The Dandelion – The Flower of the Military Child

“The official flower of the military child is the dandelion.  Why?  The plant puts down roots almost anywhere, and it’s almost impossible to destroy.  It’s an unpretentious plant, yet good looking. It’s a survivor in a broad range of climates.  Military children bloom everywhere the winds carry them.  They are hardy and upright.  Their roots are strong, cultivated deeply in the culture of the military, planted swiftly and surely.  They’re ready to fly in the breezes that take them to new adventures, new lands, and new friends.

Experts say that military children are well-rounded, culturally aware, tolerant, and extremely resilient.  Military children have learned from an early age that home is where their hearts are, that a good friend can be found in every corner of the world, and that education doesn’t only come from school.  They live history.  They learn that to survive means to adapt, that the door that closes one chapter of their life opens up to a new and exciting adventure full of new friends and new experiences.”

Something to Cheer About!

jokich photosWhen Cheryl contacted us from Illinois and wanted to have us print fabric to sew into cheer uniforms we were excited. The graphics she sent were awesome and the project was our first true print, cut, sew for garments. The fabric was a 4-way stretch polyester and she was making razor back womens shirts, t-shirts, and performance shorts for a competitive cheer team. The self fabric binding was printed with diamond plate which accented the shirt graphics perfectly. She sent us the files on a 36” x 60” pasteboard (1 yard of the 60” wide fabric) and we sublimated the designs. We then returned the fabric to Cheryl who then did the “cut, sew” part of the project. If you are interested in creating that striking look of all over print that is truly custom to your group, then this is the process you want to investigate. Call or email us at Spirit of Livingston and your team can have the most outstanding uniforms they have ever had!

Ever wanted to have that great accessory to your outfit that matched perfectly? Our custom printed scarves are the perfect item to do just that. Sublimated in full color, two sides, this 100% polyester super sheer knit drapes beautifully as it is worn around your neck. The blank fabric is finished on the edges with a polyester thread before sublimating so the thread dyes to the same color as the design. Size is approximately 60 x 15 printed edge to edge.

We are working to open an on-line store for designs we have created, but the real cool thing is the opportunity to design your own! It can be made from photos, original art that you put together in the computer or scanned. We have already had requests for a piano keyboard, and a design that resembled targets in the school colors for an archery team mom. Very reasonable in price, you’ll have the one-of-a-kind look to accessorize your favorite outfit. Create a special design for your group of “gal pals” to go on that next girls weekend shopping at the outlet mall.  The ideas are limitless. A perfect mother’s day gift for your wife, mom, sister or grandma.

Visit spiritoflivingston.com for a link to the store to open in early April, 2014. If you would like to get started right away, send an email to spiritstore@sbcglobal.net with your idea and we will can give you complete information on how to start creating your custom scarf.

Fleece Tie Pillows Make Great Coaches Gifts

Tie Pillows

We are always getting “Team Moms” coming in to our store to find a great gift for their team’s coach. They are tired of t-shirts, hats, jackets and polos. If a coach has been at it for a while they have a stock pile of those kinds of gifts and really don’t need any more. We have a great solution to this situation. A custom printed fleece tie pillow.

We can print your team logo, team photo, team signatures, or even the season’s stats on super soft fleece. All you have to do to complete the project is make the cuts, get a pillow form, and tie the knots!

What a great idea not only for coaches but for graduating seniors, MVPs, or that hard working team mom!

Stop in to see our samples or email us for a quote. We can do any size to fit the standard pillow forms you can get at your local Jo-Ann store or Michaels.

Cover for my first iphone

iphone cover for blogEver since iphones came out I have wanted one. My carrier was Verizon so I wanted to wait until they became available through them. When that time came, I didn’t want to spend the extra money on the data plan so I did not get the iphone. Now that the pricing is coming within reason and I was due for a new phone, I decided to take the step and got my first iphone.

So many people have iphones and they all look alike. There are lots of covers available out there but I wanted mine to be really custom. I am a Wizard of Oz collector. I have hundreds of OZ things in my office and in my home. I even have witches legs appearing to come out from under my house in my garden. I have used this photo for notecards so I thought it would make a great iphone cover. Something no one else has.

That is what sublimation is all about. Taking an image of something you really love and putting it on just about anything. We have printed cell phone covers  with baby photos, sports teams, garden pictures, geometric patterns, and positive sayings. Possibilities are endless.

Why have the same phone cover as all the other people out there? Design your individual one today. Contact us for a template that you can put your idea on and we will produce your cover for you.

Our First Print, Cut, Sew Project

Purse Finished PhotoPurse Liner

We just completed our first print, cut, sew project. It was a simple over the shoulder bag with an art deco pattern in brilliant blues, purples, greens and black. We purchased and downloaded a See & Sew pattern which we then imported into Photoshop. We were then able to fill the pattern pieces we needed to create the bag with the art deco pattern. Once we liked what we saw in photoshop we flattened the image and printed a transfer on our large format sublimation printer. We then sublimated the transfer on to 9oz Hercules polyester fabric.

Pieces were then cut out and the sewing began. We were not crazy how the pattern was put together and would make some changes on the next project, but overall the outcome was fantastic!

How cool to pick any design you like, create your own fabric, create a liner fabric that coordinates with the outside design and produce just what you need to make that one-of-a-kind bag.

The possibilities are endless. We are able to have customers design their own fabric and we will print it for them to sew their own projects. The key is getting the pattern into the computer. If you don’t have a digital pattern, we can print pieces of fabric 36″ x 60″ and you can use regular paper patterns. This process does not give you as much control over matching the patterns in the fabric, but does work to create that one of a kind piece.

We are a family business located in Howell, Michigan. We have been in business for over 27 years doing printing, screen printing, banners, embroidery, varsity jackets, laser etching, and our newest venture large format sublimation. We are starting this blog to let people know all we have to offer especially in the sublimation category. We can print up to 60″ x 40″ on our large format heat presses which allows us to turn a white t-shirt into a beautiful, artistic, colorful piece of designer clothing. Your imagination is the limit. If you can create the art and send us a file we can put it on a shirt, or fabric to sew into something. 3′ x 5′ flags are our specialty.
